The Midnight Elves is the craft group which helps support the Motueka Steiner School, Kindergarten, and Playgroup. Our aims include building our community connection and spirit, raising money to support our school, and providing children with quality playthings. We supply toys for the children both to play with in school, and to purchase for play at home.  We also provide teaching and encouragement if you are wanting to learn how to make your own creations, as well as potentially contribute to making stock for our 3 main markets over the year.

Please join us on Wednesday mornings, during term time, from 9:30 to 13:00 in the Midnight Elves Workshop at the Motueka Steiner Kindergarten, 33 Wallace Street.  All are welcome!

    Hi Leni,

Thank you for your comment and your kind words. Yes, you certainly may order some things from us. We have an Etsy shop, which can be found here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheMidnightElves

At them moment our Etsy shop has a few pieces of hand-dyed felt, and we will be adding some toys and dolls soon. We also can custom make pieces for you, if you don’t see what you’re looking for in our Etsy shop.

We’re very pleased at the idea of our toys finding a loving home in Australia!

Hey I’m a steiner inspired homeschooling mama from further down the West Coast and am wondering when you’ll have more stock in your Etsy shop??? I’m teaching myself how to needle felt but with 3 babes 5 and under, a goat, chickens, a garden, baking, general clothes sewing, and all the other little things that I’m blessed to have fill my day its a slow process and as for dollmaking – out of my league as yet LOL I need a place to go for some made with love creations for my babes. Also where, BTW, do you get the wire figures that you felt around???? I’ve had a look round since I want to have a go but so far haven’t had any luck.

Thank you for your comments on our blog. It’s nice to connect with like-minded people!

We have just taken stock out of our Etsy shop in preparation for our school’s annual Spring Fair, which is next Sunday, 16 September from 10 -3. Each year we have a big stall there, and sell out of most of our toys and dolls. What about taking a road trip up the coast to join us in Motueka for the grand event? Every year lots of Steiner inspired homeschooling families join us.

If we have any stock left over after the fair, we will put some back into the Etsy shop. If we sell out, we will put some toys on to Etsy as we make more.

Which particular kinds of toys and dolls do you wish to purchase?

If you ever do find yourself in our neck of the woods on a Wednesday morning, by all means stop by our dollmaking session. We can give you some needle felting tips if you would like.

I’m not sure about where to find wire figures to needle felt around. We sometimes us pipecleaners as a base, and wrap the fleece around them after they are bent into shape.

    Thanks for being in touch!

    Kind regards,
    The Midnight Elves

I am searching for the wooden picture frames? I realise I am a little off track here. We attend Christchurch Rudolf Steiner and the teachers mentioned they got their frames from a past a students father. They moved to Motueka?

Any help in sourcing these frames will be appreciated as I have many beautiful artworks waiting to be displayed!!

    Kind regards melisa

Hello, I would love to come and join one of your craft sessions, but was wondering if it would be ok to bring my 1 year old daughter along?

I talked to you at the Autumn fair about getting a baby mobile. Do you think if we came over to Motueka tomorrow (19th) there will be something to pick up? You can txt me on 0274574886. Cheers,

Hi Nigel, thank you for your contact. I have spoken to The Elves who were at the Autumn Fair, and the mobile isn’t ready yet. Please let me know when you need it by. It is the school holidays, and we can get it organised before we meet again on 3rd of May. I will text you as well. regards Monni
